Building A New Home

by | Oct 15, 2014 | Construction and Remodeling

The real estate market in the Portland area has taken off again in the last few months. Prices are going back up and builders are starting back up where they left off before the crash a few years back. Often times builders are building homes as fast as they can to keep up with demand in times like these.

At Absolute Painting & Power Washing we mainly work on homes that are getting repainted and not homes that are being built. People often wonder why we do not paint new construction homes. The main reason is that builders do not want to pay for quality work or products which is what we specialize in.

Homeowners will purchase a new home and not realize for many months how low of quality the products were that were used on the home. Often times the paints used will look amazing when you first move into your new home. The problem shows up when you try to clean or do any touch up painting on it. Most interior paints used on new construction projects is very low quality and will likely never be able to be washed or touched up. If you have kids, pets or just messy friends you will likely want this as an option.

The exterior paints will often be low quality also. In many cases a new home may need to have the exterior repainted within 5 years. They may be made by a good company like Sherwin Williams or Rodda but they are likely the low end of quality. Many times the painters will not prime areas that should be primed or they may use low quality caulk or other products that are meant to protect your home.

I suggest that you take the time to ask your builder some simple questions before agreeing to build your new home. They may give you the option to upgrade the materials that are being used for just a few hundred dollars. The difference between a low grade paint and high grade can be less than $10 per gallon but could save you from repainting your home too soon. Feel free to call Absolute Painting if you are building or thinking of building a home and we are happy to help you choose the right paints for the job.
