At Absolute Painting & Power Washing we are celebrating our 20th Anniversary in 2015. It all started back in 1995 when I was fresh out of college working out of the back of my Acura Integra. I had painted apartments for an apartment complex in Hillsboro to help me pay for college. I slowly started to get referrals and learn more about the painting industry. I am not sure I knew that would be my career at that time but I am so happy that it has turned out that way.
In an average year I will visit about 800 homes to give estimates for painting. I see so many things that people could do to their homes that would save them so much money in the long run. One valuable lesson I have learned is that you should pay for quality. You really do get what you pay for in most cases when it comes to home repairs or remodeling projects. I understand that we all have to live within a budget but some things are not worth cutting costs on. You may not recover every penny you put into your home but you will save a lot of pennies by doing things right the first time.
I am not saying that you should not get multiple bids for your projects. Most people that I give painting estimates to are getting 3-4 bids. Some homeowners are strictly looking for the lowest price. Some just want the highest quality. Others are usually somewhere in the middle of quality and price. My advice is do your homework before you have people out to give you a bid. With the internet and all of the review sites these days it is easy to narrow your choices down quickly.
Take time to meet the people that are giving you the bids and listen to what they have to say. Some contractors are truly after your best interests and some are just good talkers. Don’t be afraid to ask them questions like how long have you been in business. Ask them for referrals of recent customers. Go online and check their license number with the contractor’s board. Ask what other services they offer and what type of warranty you will get.
At Absolute Painting & Power Washing we often tell people that we are not the lowest price they will find and there is a reason for that. Our goal of 100% customer satisfaction is not easy to live up to but it is something we are always striving to achieve.
