In the Portland area it is a constant battle to keep our concrete outside clean with the rain we get. It always seems like the winter brings us green and black stuff that grows on it and causes it to be slippery and dangerous.
Many homeowners have pressure washers that they use to clean off concrete or bricks on the home every year. Sometimes using a cleaning product can assist with this. We often use outdoor bleach while pressure washing to help remove the mildew growth. Many homeowners will use products sold at Home Depot such as Gone in 30 seconds. These products can definitely help the cause but be extremely careful using these products as they can cause major health problems for some people. Read all safety precautions before using and wear protective gear. Do not use these if you have any type of breathing problems.
Once you have cleaned your concrete or bricks we recommend applying some type of sealer that can help keep them clean and prevent water damage. Many homeowners do not know about these sealers but if applied every few years they can really help extend the life of your concrete and brick surfaces. I do recommend buying a high end sealer from a paint store such as Sherwin Williams or Miller Paint instead of a cheap product.
You may only need to seal your surfaces every few years. I personally seal my driveway about every three years. The products are often easy to apply with a garden sprayer or with a roller.
