Absolute Painting & Power Washing works on many homes every year in the Portland area. Our goal is always to give you the best possible paint job to help protect your home from damage. Due to the cold, wet climate we have in Portland during the winter months, we see dry rot issues in homes every now and then. Dry rot repair may be necessary on siding or any other wood surface in a home. Many of the homes we provide services for have wood windows, door frames, fascia boards, corner boards or decorative posts. Typically these are the areas of a home where dry rot repair may be required.
It does not take much in the way of a crack or construction defect to allow water to get into wood and start destroying it. In some cases if you catch the problem early dry rot is a fairly easy problem to repair. While the exterior painting of a home, done properly, will aide in the prevention of dry rot, this is not always the case when dry rot is already present.
When Absolute Painting prepares an exterior painting proposal for a new or existing customer we do an inspection for dry rot, and other issues that could potentially cost you hundreds, if not thousands of dollars to repair. We also do this when performing an interior painting estimate as well. A leaky faucet, water pipe, or window sill, just to name a few potential problem areas, can create a need for dry rot repair as well.
Frequently it is quite easy for an experienced professional to spot a likely area in need of dry rot repair. When discovered early dry rot problems may be solved with a little scraping, caulking, and primer. In fact certain primers that we use at Absolute Painting & Power Washing help to waterproof the areas of concern for dry rot repair.
When a problem area goes unnoticed too long that is when we see wood that crumbles to the touch. When dry rot damage is located at an exterior window sill, doorway, or other conduit, such as a skylight, dry rot repair may be required on the interior portion of the entrance or access as well.
There have been many changes in how homes are built and the types of materials that are used. There has also been a difference in construction techniques and building codes over the past twenty years. Despite all of this change, bad or good, older and newer homes all are susceptible to dry rot damage; especially in the northwest.
Whether you live in Portland, Hillsboro, Beaverton, Aloha, Lake Oswego, or any of the surrounding areas, feel free to call us at Absolute Painting & Power Washing we will be glad to come to your home and perform an inspection for dry rot damage.
“We guarantee you will be a satisfied customer.”
