Exterior Home Improvement Ideas For Selling Your Home

by | Jan 2, 2017 | Uncategorized

The Portland real estate market was one of the hottest in the entire country in 2016 and it has no signs of slowing down in 2017.  We have been painting many homes for new homeowners moving from all over the country the past few months.  If you are planning to put your home on the market in 2017 you might consider spending a few dollars to make it more appealing to potential buyers.  If you are thinking I will let the next homeowners fix all of the problems you may get stuck not being able to get a good sales price or not selling at all which we see often.

Selling Your Home

When you pull up to your home what is the first thing you notice?  Be honest with yourself on this one.  Does the house have paint falling off of it?  Do you see mildew growing on your siding and gutters?  Does the front door appear as if it has cooked in an oven for 20 years?  Does your driveway look like a mechanic lives there?

Many sellers think why would I spend money on the home I am selling?   These are all things that a potential buyer will see when they drive up to your home the first time.  They may not even consider buying as soon as they see the problems on the exterior.

A few simple things you can do to spruce up the exterior for minimal cost would be to have the home pressure washed along with the driveway, decks and other concrete.  You might spend less than $500 to have all of this done and make the home look so much better.

Many homeowners have issues with caulking that is cracking and failing on there homes.  This is an immediate turn off to potential buyers as they fear this will cause water intrusion.  It likely will not cause major problems but they may not know that.  Most inspectors will call the caulking issues out and you may get stuck paying for it anyways.  Getting the caulking fixed can cost $500-$1500 including touch up painting and can save you a lot of hassle during the sales process.  If you have paint falling off of your home this would be a good time to have that fixed as well.  This can also be an inexpensive fix on most homes.

If your front door is having major problems as many do if they face the hot sun consider getting a new one or maybe just painting the current one.  You might only pay around $250-$350 to get it painted professionally and it can look brand new again.  Nobody wants to make a bad first impression and an old run down front door will do that.

At Absolute Painting & Power Washing we can assist with most of these issues if you are not a do it yourself type.  We can at least give you a second opinion as to what should be done so you can get top dollar for your home.  You may spend a few extra dollars to make it look nice but will likely get it all back and then some when it sells.
