At Absolute Painting the exterior painting season is already upon us. Here are some things to keep in mind when selecting the paint for your home.
There are so many paint choices available but when it comes to exterior paint it is always recommended to choose the best paint your budget will allow. There IS a difference. Using better quality paint can save time and money with better coverage and offers better protection.
Detailed prep it crucial to a successful paint project. Home and siding needs to be thoroughly cleaned and scraped. If there is an adhesion issue there are specialty primers that can be beneficial. If wood or siding is in need of repair, repair it. Paint is not a fix.
A satin finish is being used more and more often and it can be the right choice in many circumstances. A satin finish tends to fade less quickly, look less chalky and easier maintenance especially for white trim and gutters. There are situations where it is not recommended however. If you have layers of old badly peeling paint putting a satin finish over this will cast shadows and give it an uneven look. Also, remember the darker the color the more evident the sheen will be.
All paint colors are affected by light. When trying to select a paint color for the exterior make sure to look at it the sun and shade, it is also a good idea to test it on a couple sides of the house.
