This year we have made some great additions to our team at Absolute Painting. Mark Cole has joined our team to help me with sales and project management. Mark brings over 40 years of experience in the painting field along with many specialty skills that we did not have previously. He had spent most of the last 45 years running his own painting company in California and Oregon. Many of those years he worked on very high end homes doing painting and staining projects.
Mark became known as the front door refinishing go to guy for many years in the Portland area. Many painters and paint stores would refer him to anyone hoping to get their front door refinished. In Oregon our front doors can take a beating from the weather. It is especially bad if they get any hot sun on them. Wood doors that are stained will often start to fade, discolor and deteriorate very quickly in the hot sun.
Mark specialized in stripping and refinishing these wood doors for many years. Front doors are very time consuming and you need to use some serious chemicals to strip them. The products that he used to protect them would cost upwards of $200 per gallon. He says that even with the best products and prep work you may only get about 3 years out of your front door if they face the hot sun.
Since Mark has joined Absolute Painting he is no longer working on the front doors but he is teaching our crews some of his tricks. We are starting to work on more doors including doing some stain matching and applying the protective coatings on them. We will likely not be stripping them completely as Mark did for years but we are learning many new ways to get more life out of front doors. A nice wood front door can cost thousands of dollars to replace so anything you can do to get the door to last will save you money in the long run.
