Holiday Clean Up

by | Dec 14, 2016 | Uncategorized

The holidays are upon us again and many of us are getting up on ladders to put lights up in the cold weather.  This is a great time to do a little multi tasking to prepare your home for the winter weather we have left.  While you are hanging your lights or taking them down it is a great time to clean out your gutters and make sure the downspouts are flowing properly.  Making sure these items are clean and working properly can really save your home from a lot of costly damage.  hanging-xmas-lights

While up on the roof you can apply a moss treatment to the sides of home that do not get much sun exposure.  I prefer to do the moss treatment to my roof once in fall and once in spring but if you are already on the roof it is a great time to do this.  The powder I use can be purchased at most home improvement stores and is usually about $20 for a container that will treat the roof.  It usually takes me about 10 minutes to apply the powder.  The rain will wash the powder down and kill moss or stop its growth so you don’t have to cover the entire roof.  This quick treatment can save your roof from deteriorating too quickly and save you a lot of money.

The final thing to do while on your roof is to clean and inspect any skylights on your roof.  Most people to don’t clean them very often because they don’t want to get on the roof so this is the perfect time to clean the glass.  Inspect them to make sure they are not falling apart as they can cause a lot of damage if they get too old and start leaking.

Taking a little extra time while you are doing holiday decorations can save you a lot of money down the road.  Be safe while working on your roof and hire a contractor if you do not feel comfortable doing this work.  Absolute Painting can assist with many of these home projects if needed.

Enjoy your holidays!
