Choosing the Right Interior Painting Contractors

by | Aug 28, 2019 | Interior Painting

The United States painting industry’s total revenue in 2018 was over 43 billion dollars with an annual growth rate of 4.3%. With such rapid growth, the chance of contacting an interior painting contractor or company without the proper insurance and licensing is high, so it’s very important to do your research and ask the right questions before hiring someone. To help you in this process, we’ve listed a few very important questions.

Are You Licensed and Insured?

Licensing and proper insurance are both extremely important when considering a contractor or painting company. As a client, you should never consider working with a contractor that does not have valid insurance in place. If you’re unsure about a contractor’s insurance, you should call the insurance carrier and confirm their plan is current and active.  If you are in Oregon, you can also visit the Oregon Construction Contractors Board website to check for a contractor’s insurance and licensing.

In addition, a licensed painter is bound to comply with the quality standards specified by the state. This protects you as a consumer and will insure that you are recompensed for any loss that is incurred due to not adhering to the contract. Where Can I Get References and Read Reviews?

Customers can find reviews on many different websites when hiring interior painting contractors.  Angie’s List was one of the first and most popular places customers could look for a reliable contractor and is still a great resource for customers. Yelp has many reviews although the filtering options for the reviews can be difficult and the site is less user-friendly compared to others. Google is also a great resource for reviews for any type of business. Lastly, Home Advisor is another site that potential customers can visit to read reviews and learn about a business.

How Much Does Interior Painting Cost?

Interior painting can cost as little as a few hundred dollars or many thousands of dollars depending on the project. Painting one small room in a home may only be $300-$400 for labor and materials if you are just painting the walls. On average, ceiling painting will cost about half of what it would cost to paint the walls in a room unless the ceilings are vaulted which can add to the cost.

An average cost to paint all of the walls in a home would likely range from $5,000-$10,000 for a normal-sized home, including labor and materials.  The more colors you add, the higher the price will be. If you decide to paint your doors and millwork the price can have a huge range, depending on whether it was painted before or if it was stained.  It takes a lot more time and money to paint a surface that was stained previously.

If you decide to paint your cabinets this will cost about $4,000-$8,000 on average, depending on the type of cabinets and how many you have. Painting kitchen cabinets has become very popular in the last few years – simply giving cabinets a fresh, modern coat of paint is much cheaper and less time-consuming than fully replacing them, and it can provide a whole new look!
