Most of us at one time or another have decided to tackle our own interior painting projects. For some it is a fun project that they enjoy spending a weekend on and for others it is a dreaded project they do to save some money. I spend most of my days out meeting homeowners and more often than not I hear the latter.
Planning your painting project takes time and effort on your part. What brand of paint do I use? What type of paint do I need? Do I need primer or should I wash the surface first? These are all great questions and hopefully I have addressed most of them with past blogs. The final question is how long should I expect this to take me?
Of course this is a tough question to answer and will depend on your skill level when it comes to painting and prep work. For example we will take a small room as that is what most homeowners attempt to paint on their own. If you decide to paint a small bedroom that measures about 12’x12′ with 8′ tall ceilings and assuming you will need two coats of paint to make it look good.
The average homeowner can prepare and paint the room in about 8-10 hours if they have some painting experience. If you decide to paint the ceilings you will spend extra time covering more flooring and furniture which can be the hardest part. In most cases the ceiling will take about half the time of the walls. This room will likely take you 2 gallons of paint for the walls and 2 gallons of paint for the ceilings.
It is best to invite no more than one friend over if painting a small room to help you as any more than that in a small space can make it easier to make a mess or have an accident.
If you decide that the interior painting project is more difficult than your time is worth please call Absolute Painting and we can usually get this done in less than a day for you and sometimes save you money in the process.
