One of the more popular trends in updating homes has moved from replacing kitchen cabinets to painting them instead. The cost of replacing cabinets and countertops is extremely high and sometimes does not give you a return on investment when you go to sell your home. Painting these cabinets with a high quality enamel paint can not only change the entire look but can save you many thousands of dollars.
Kitchen Cabinet Painting Offers Incredible Transformations
Many homeowners have older wood cabinets that looked amazing back when their home was built. Oak was very popular 30 years ago but most people prefer the more updated look of painted cabinets these days. Our process of painting cabinets can totally transform old, tired looking cabinets and make them look new for a fraction of the cost of new cabinets!
The process to paint cabinets involves a lot of prep work including removing all doors, drawers and hardware. Wood repairs may need to be done ahead of time along with caulking and sanding them down. We apply primer coats that can be sanded along with two coats of enamel paint that will dry very hard and clean easily. If all of these steps are not followed you will likely have problems with the cabinet paint. Most kitchen cabinet projects take us about 1 week to complete and it is hard to use your kitchen when the project is going on.
White Kitchen Cabinets vs. Black Kitchen Cabinets
When we started painting cabinets a few years ago, most people just said they wanted white paint on them. The last couple years that has changed to using many colors and sometimes more than one color on them. Some customers are choosing one color for an island and different colors for main cabinets or doing upper cabinets one color and lower cabinets another color. You can be very creative picking colors for cabinets to make it really stand out.
Painting Bathroom Cabinets Too
We not only get requests for kitchen cabinets but we also paint bathroom cabinets or other built in cabinets in your home. It is much easier to paint all cabinets at the same time if we are already in your home so let us know if you are considering other cabinets getting painted and you might save money doing them all at the same time.
Enjoy Your New Kitchen Cabinets!
Once your cabinets are painted you should be careful with them for a couple weeks until the paint fully cures. You can use them as you normally would be don’t be too aggressive until the are fully cured. Cabinet paint can last for many years when done the right way and you will have an amazing transformation you can enjoy for years to come!
