Metal flashing is installed on areas of our home where we are trying to get rain to run off to protect surfaces and keep moisture from getting into the wrong places. At Absolute Painting & Power Washing we see many homes every year and in many cases they have metal flashing that is installed wrong and is doing damage to the home. Sometimes the flashing may have been installed correctly but over time and due to settling it may not being doing its job anymore.
You do not have to be an expert to inspect your flashing and look for problems. The main thing to look for would be if the flashing gets rained on is it making the rain go away from the home or forcing it back towards the home. Many times it will just get bent for various reasons over time and it may be forcing water and trapping it against the siding which can cause dry rot or moisture issues.
If you see anything that looks like it may be a problem you should call an expert and have it inspected. Many flashing issues can not be detected easily.
