So the holidays are here and the weather is not looking good for doing any work outside. Many of us have some time off in December and want to find a home project that can be done. What can you do to make the biggest impact in a short amount of time and on a limited budget? Paint some walls that have been ignored for too long. You know you have been looking at the same dirty walls for years and thinking one of these days I am going to get the paint brush out and do it myself or maybe just call a professional to do the job while you relax. Either way this can be a fun project that may not cost as much as you think.
You can go to many different stores to get paint but we always prefer to use actual paint stores such as Sherwin Williams, Rodda, Miller or Benjamin Moore. The quality is usually much better than what you might get at a Home Depot or Lowe’s despite what reports might say. You can get a very good interior paint starting around $30-$40 per gallon at most stores especially if you catch it on sale. The employees at the paint stores are usually much more knowledgeable than other stores when it comes to the best products to use. If you find an interior paint for under $20 per gallon it is much less likely to hold up very long or be easy to maintain so do your homework. If you hire a professional to do this work they might even get you a better price on the paint due to contractor discounts.
Once you have the paint you will need the right tools as prep work is the key to any successful paint job. You might need tarps if you do not have them to cover floors or plastic sheeting to cover furniture so you don’t paint that as well. Finding a good quality masking tape and paper is essential for painting good lines and protecting other surfaces. Many people think they can paint without making a mess but very few have mastered this art.
