Rust is also a problem that may alert you that your gutters have a leak which can cause major damage to the home. Many companies that clean your roof can also deal with gutter cleaning. Also make sure your downspouts are not clogged. If you live in an area with lots of trees you may need to consider better gutters and downspouts or some sort of screens to keep the gutters from clogging.
The last tip for easy home maintenance is to look at your windows and doors for cracked caulking. It should be very obvious if the caulking is cracked. A quick repair to failed caulking could save you thousands in water damage.
