Sun damage is a very common problem in Oregon for many homeowners. At Absolute Painting we always inspect your home before giving you a paint bid to make sure that the surface is in good enough condition to paint. In many cases the sun has done damage to siding that can not be repaired.
The most common types of siding that will have damage are made of wood and will be exposed to the hot afternoon sun on the south and west sides of the home. It is usually found in homes that are at least 20 years old. The sun will dry out the wood and cause it to start cracking or cupping.
T 1-11 siding is very common around here. It
is basically siding that is made of plywood and has grooves cut into it. Usually it will start to have issues on one or two sides of the home within 20-30 years if exposed to hot sun. We can help extend the life of this siding if it is not in too bad of condition but often times we recommend replacement.
Cedar siding is also likely to get sun damage. You will notice it starts to crack, cup and have paint peeling issues after many years. We can put temporary fixes on this type of siding if it is not too far gone but it will likely be a maintenance issue in the future.
At Absolute Painting we are always happy to give you a visual inspection and help you get this type of problem fixed. The longer you wait the more likely it will be that the siding needs to be replaced. Being a proactive homeowner can save you thousands of dollars in repairs.
