What Color says about YOU

By Beth Girgen Hall

We are surrounded by color in our everyday lives from the closet and deciding what to wear on a given day to what and where we chose to eat.  The psychology of color is a multi-million dollar business helping companies with their websites, the product packaging to the colors used in a restaurant to make us order and eat more.

Color affects our mood and can change our environment dramatically so getting it right is important. Take a look at your home, your office what is it saying about you? Is it projecting the image you were hoping for? Most importantly how do you feel in it? Is it time for a change?  For instance, after going through a divorce it can be very helpful to change colors it creates the feeling of a brand new start and you as an individual.

Color is THE most important tool we use when it comes to designing our homes, but finding the perfect color can sometimes be overwhelming. Take clues from your closet, what colors make you feel happy or confident and strong. Also take into consideration the room itself, its purpose and who spends the most time in it. Finally, the architecture of the room – would you like it to feel bigger, cozier, brighter, warmer etc.

Below are some fun thoughts on color and a couple of my favorite Sherwin Williams & Benjamin Moore paint colors as examples.  Absolute Painting & Power Washing is a full service painting and design contractor for the Portland Metro area, matching people and color is what we do!
