At Absolute Painting & Power Washing we are constantly doing product testing to find out what will give our customers the best products for their money. We work with many different suppliers and use many different products depending on the situation. Paint companies invest millions of dollars in research and development on new products every year. When we sell a product we want to make sure that you are not just paying for better marketing or a nicer label. There are a few important elements that make up a quality paint.
Most paints consist of water, pigment and resins. The resins are also called a binder or polymer. All of these things combined will help determine if you have a good quality paint or not. If a paint has a large percentage of water in it you will have less material to help it stay on the surface.
Most research says that a 100% acrylic binder is the best resin for long term success. If you have less than 100%, the paint can crack and get chalky over time. This will also help protect the pigment longer which is very important in the Portland area.
The pigment must be high quality also to have a great paint product. Some paint companies are coming out with more fade resistant pigments and also zero VOC pigments.
A quality paint must consist of a good balance between all of these items combined. Don’t just judge a paint by a fancy label or cool name. Ask your local painting contractor what type of paint you should use if painting your home and you will save yourself a lot of time and frustration in the long run.
