Why Use Peel Bond Primer?

by | May 14, 2014 | Exterior Painting

Our warm weather has arrived this week and we hope it plans to stick around for awhile.  Our summer schedule is quickly filling up with exterior painting projects.  Portland is known for its rainy weather for a large part of the year.  All of the rain that we get causes major problems for homeowners that they may or may not even realize.  Paint does not always prevent the problems from occurring but it can help.

A few years back we discovered an amazing product called Peel Bond that is made by XIM.  It is a very thick primer that when applied looks like Elmer’s Glue.  Peel Bond is much thicker than paint and can help fill cracks in bad siding and trim.  It helps to build a waterproof barrier on items that may have dry rot in the future.

The newer homes that have been built in the last 20 years seem to have major problems with dry rot.  They look very nice when they are built but the exterior trim they put on these homes is not made to last very long.  I often see wood that has fallen apart or has mushrooms growing out of it on homes that are 5 years old or less.  Had Peel Bond been used on these items it may have saved the homeowners thousands of dollars in repairs.  The attached photo is of a house we recently painted of major dry rot issues.

If you decide to call us for an exterior painting bid this season you will most likely hear me talk about this product.  You may pay a little extra for the additional primer and prep work but it will save you so much money in the future.  Our goal is to get your paint job to last for many years and also to protect the surfaces.  Call us today if you are considering painting your home this season.
